The inaugural QV Foods Chef of the Year competition creates mass interest at BP 2011

Having invited employees across the group to send in their written recipes, for a potato based dish that could feed a family of four, QV Foods were delighted to invite the three selected finalists over to BP 2011, Harrogate to cook their entries in the showcase kitchen area, at the front end of the stand.

The three finalists, in running order, were;

  • Alistair Redpath from Pseedco (QV Scotland) cooking a Saag Bhaji/Saag Aloo
  • Steve Green Head of Operations (All sites) cooking a Fillet Steak, Mash Potato & Asparagus
  • David Storer, Storesman (Norfolk) cooking Stuffed Chicken breasts with Potato Wedges & Baby carrots with cheese & bacon sauce

Each finalist was given 40 minutes to prepare & cook their dish, under the guidance & watchful eye of our very own development Chef, Claire Harrison. Upon completion of the meal, Claire was then joined by Duncan Worth (Chairman) & Mike Rimmer (MD) & the products were judged based upon three core criteria, working method, presentation & finally taste!

After three hours of great fun & a lot of crowd interaction, all three finalists had completed their dishes & the final scores were totalled, it was then after much deliberation that the winner was announced.

Before doing so, the judges commented on both the quality & also the variety of all three entries, however it was felt that for the innovation showed in his recipe, in terms of cooking from scratch & also the methods used that David Storer would be crowned QV Chef of the Year.

A final presentation saw the two runners up each receive QV Chef of the Year 2011 branded aprons, whilst as the winner David also received a set of Sabatier Chef’s Knives, presented by Duncan Worth & Mike Rimmer.

Overall a fantastic effort from all there finalists & QV would like to congratulate each of them & in particular David.
